Most people are concerned with the dents on their car. But beyond the car, which typically can be repaired back to normal working order, you need to be concerned about your body. The impact one sustains from a simple “fender bender” can be significant enough to cause pain and discomfort for years to come.
Should I go to the Emergency Room?
The emergency room will evaluate and treat you for any life threatening injuries. If you think you have sustained injuries that need immediate attention, please go to the nearest hospital.
Why didn’t I feel pain right after my car accident?
Directly after a car wreck your body will respond with a dose of adrenaline. This is your body’s “fight or flight” mechanism and may limit the amount of pain you feel at first. In fact, you might not feel any pain at all. It’s common for symptoms to gradually increase once the adrenaline is out of your system. Soreness, stiffness, pain and headaches often occur days after the collision.
Even though I went to the ER, should I schedule an injury evaluation?
Yes. It is in your best interest to be evaluated by a chiropractor who specializes in treating this type of trauma. Injuries may be hidden or not present themselves right away. If the evaluation does not reveal any accident related injuries, treatment is not necessary. For your peace of mind and for your health, it is best to be evaluated after an accident. We are conveniently located on State Route 28 in Milford and see patients regularly from Milford, Goshen, Loveland , Miami Township and the surrounding areas.
Why am I in pain days after the collision? What should I do?
Pain indicates something is wrong in your body. Soft tissue injuries, like whiplash, often get worse before getting better. Without proper care the muscles could heal incorrectly, causing discomfort for years after the accident. Seek care from a chiropractic physician who specializes in treating auto accident injuries. They are specifically educated and trained to restore your body to its proper function.
How do I pay for treatment?
There are a few ways to pay for your care:
Some people choose to make a claim for medical payments from their own car insurance company. This does not cause your rates to go up. Your insurance company pays for your treatment, up to the stated limits of the policy, and then is reimbursed from the at-fault insurance company.
Sometimes providers will accept an assignment of your future settlement. In either case, all necessary treatment will be paid in full and you do not have to pay a co-pay or deductible.
Another option is for you to pay out of your own pocket as you are treated. In most cases, providers will give you a discount for paying at the time of service. We accept all three payment methods.
Do I need an attorney?
The decision to seek representation does not necessarily have to be made right away. However, having an attorney may provide you peace of mind since your attorney will handle all communication between you and the insurance company. Your attorney will also have experience negotiating a fair settlement for your pain, suffering and inconvenience. Often these cases are taken on a contingency basis, meaning that your attorney doesn’t get paid unless you receive a settlement. Most attorneys will sit down with you for a free consultation to see if you have a legitimate case.
